May Emerald

Deep in color and rich in heritage, emerald is the birthstone of May—and one of the world’s most renowned gemstones. With its captivating green hue and deep religious meaning, emerald holds the very essence of life: rebirth, love, and inner happiness.
Presented as a gift to celebrate a May birthday or chosen for its richness of meaning, emeralds offer classic sophistication and emotional depth.
Emeralds have been a gemstone of rebirth, wisdom, and eternal youthfulness for centuries.
Associated with the heart chakra, emeralds are believed to attract love, promote compassion, and deepen emotional connection.
In mythological times, the gemstone was believed to allow the wearer to see the truth as well as foretell future events, a talisman for insight and clarity.
Emerald’s soothing green hue echoes nature’s renewal and growth, making it a meaningful gift for someone going through personal growth or celebrating milestones like anniversaries, new love, or even motherhood. It’s a stone of emotional healing and unconditional love, ideal for expressing a deeply personal story in jewellery.
Emeralds beautifully complement both retro-chic and contemporary designs. They make a great center stone because of their color, and their ideal setting is a bezel or claw setting that protects and displays their natural beauty.
For a classy finish, emeralds are paired with tapered baguette or trapezoid-cut side stones—offering an effective, architectural balance.
At Ernesto Buono Fine Jewellery, we often employ antique-style hand engraving to mount emeralds at a romantic level of intricacy and antique glamour.
In engagement rings and anniversary pieces, statement cocktail rings and pendants, emeralds are ideally suited to being employed in heirloom-quality pieces that will endure forever.
Not all emeralds are created equal. The finest examples hail from Colombia’s Muzo and Chivor mines—regions famously synonymous with producing emeralds of superior clarity, vibrant colour saturation, and natural brilliance.
They are rare and valuable, occasionally possessing a bluish-green undertone that collectors and connoisseurs dream about.
While tiny inclusions (called jardin, or “garden” in French) are to be anticipated and don’t detract from the beauty of emeralds—in truth, they contribute to their uniqueness and personality—at Ernesto Buono, we meticulously work with trustworthy stockists to source only the most vibrantly colored and skillfully cut emeralds, to fit each client’s own style and story.
For a client looking to express individuality and emotional depth in a bespoke piece, a Colombian emerald offers both status and poetic value.
May’s birthstone is a celebration of the heart—of love found, nurtured, and adored.
Whether set in a bridal engagement ring, a personal talisman, or an heirloom showstopper, an emerald sends a timeless message of unity and renewal.
